How Good A Driver Are You?
Pretty good perhaps, but are you sure? You may have passed the
Governments driving test first time and with ease. Passing it, however,
should merely be the beginning of you motoring career, and the starting
point in the acquisition of mature driving skills. There will come a time
when you will want to reassure yourself that your skill is developing along
the right lines This is what the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is
all about. Founded in 1956, it is a non-profit making organisation, registered
as a charity, whose aim is to promote road safety by raising driving standards.
The Norfolk and Norwich Group of Advanced Motorists consists of members
of the IAM who are keen to play a part in promoting safe driving and road
safety. The series of observed runs are given completely free and each drive
covers approximately 35 miles - 1 hour 30 minutes of varying road conditions.
After each run a comprehensive report on driving ability is given, all on
a friendly and informal basis.
The Group, one of the largest in the country, has an active membership, arranges a social calender and publishes a magazine. Associates may take part in ALL group activities and attend any social event, together with any family and friends who are interested. The joining fee, of £85, covers the IAM's "Skill for Life" package, giving you everything you need to pass your Advanced Driving Test. You will also be sent, on joining, the book, "How to be an Advanced Driver" and a current copy of the Highway Code. If you are 25 or under, you can buy "Skill for Life" for £75 (£10 off the normal price). You will also receive a bi-monthly copy of the Norfolk & Norwich Group magazine, "Wheels".
The Group also run a "Young Driver's" course for those aged between 18 & 25, who have passed the Government drving test and would like to improve their driving skills, with the possible eventual aim of taking the Advanced Driving Test. Click on the "Young Drivers" page above.
Associate membership is not normally extended beyond twelve months (unless there are extenuating circumstances) during which time you will have taken the test, hopefully passed, and been automatically transferred to full membership. To join us and play your part in keeping our roads safer for everyone, take the challenge.
