- FIRST AID
From Neil Frame:
"We are a motorcycle club in Norfolk I have been riding bikes for 25yrs. Working in the emergency services, I have dealt with many injured people, a fair proportion of who were injured in road traffic accidents and in particular motorcyclists.
I am a qualified first aid trainer. I have the benefit of having spent six weeks with the East Anglian Ambulance Trust learning advanced first aid skills. We are now in a position to offer a bespoke first aid course for motorcyclists [and car drivers] covering the following subjects.
Bleeding.
Casualty movements.
Communication and hygiene.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Crash helmet removal.
"C" Spine immobilisation.
Log roll.
Emergencies in public, scene management
Head injury.
Primary/Secondary survey.
Shock.
Unconscious casualty.
It takes about four and a half hours to complete the course depending on class size and progress of students. We always ensure the students leave competent and confident. If you don't get it on the first course, we will return you free of charge to complete another course. The qualification is valid for three years, but annual refreshers should be undertaken to stay competent. So no pressure.
The courses are run in Dereham, Norfolk, at our venue, or we can come to you. The cost is £20 per head. This is half the price of other leading first aid providers, which could be taught by someone who knows nothing about biking. Course sizes are a minimum of eight, maximum of sixteen students.
A positive or negative response would be appreciated.

'F' WORD RANT
(Alphabetically Ordered = Rant No 6).
It's been a disappointing Month. June 2010 will go down in my memory as a time when old wounds had been opened just because someone mentioned the 'F' word.
It all started on the 2nd Sunday in June. I was sitting on my sofa at home minding my own business when an American appeared and started using the 'F' word in such a way that I was very offended. I don't think I have felt so Green with envy.
It was five days later while on holiday with friends in Zakynthos before the 'F' word offended me again. This time I was in a very noisy bar with loads of free flowing drinks - I thought the night was going to go very smoothly until the 'F' word drew a blank. Nothing, zero, zilch.
Never mind, the 'F' word will make another appearance the following Wednesday and by then I will be home, back on my sofa. And on this day, I was almost surprised to find the 'F' word mentioned again - but this time is was in a joyful, entertaining way.
However, my joy was very short-lived. The following Sunday night while I was enjoying a BBQ at the Kings Head in Hethersett the dreaded 'F' left me soooo depressed that the old wounds have indeed been opened.
So what went wrong? In my opinion three things were wrong. Heskey, Terry and Either side of Midfield. We need to play players who can play in positions, not the best players and then find them a position. We need to retire a large proportion of the team and tell them thanks, but goodbye. Pick some players who REALLY DO WANT to play for England.
Yours depressed and despondent.

leather furniture, together with the home made dishes of the traditional cooking of Cantabria, make
this Parador a unique experience.

- LETTERS
From David Banks:
"It may be an offence to cross the motorway solid white line, but your friendly traffic cop forgot to mention the all important "unless it is an emergency".
Sounds like a few copies of HWC wouldn't go amiss in your office!
My rant at this time of year is for holiday makers approaching to realise that there is room to pass without me putting my car up the bank because there is no centre white line to guide them, and that they don't have priority on approach. Or is that the fixed stare ahead, white knuckled, not used to driving on a narrow road with approaching traffic, and no guiding white line travelling too fast for conditions syndrome?"
From Pamela Austin:
"'missing rant' - the reason that people are not aware is that NO-ONE CAN BE BOTHERED TO READ THE HIGHWAY CODE.
Simple as that.
Proved by the questions in the IAM magazine with answers provided by the chief examiner - most of which are also in the highway code!
And we call ourselves advanced?"
